Frequently asked questions

Ordering, documentation, storage and the legal position. If your question is not here, email support@owsa-labs.com or use the contact form.

Ordering and delivery

Where do you ship?

The United Kingdom only, including Northern Ireland. Checkout will not accept an order to any other destination. We intend to open EU supply as a separate operation once the UK side is established, rather than shipping across the border on an ad hoc basis.

How much is delivery?

UK delivery is free on all orders.

How long will it take?

We offer fast and reliable UK-wide shipping. Most orders are dispatched within 24 hours and sent via tracked services with Royal Mail 24.

Will I pay customs or import charges?

No. We ship within the United Kingdom only, so nothing crosses a customs border and there is no import VAT or carrier handling fee on delivery.

How is an order packaged?

Lyophilised material is stable at ambient temperature for the few days a parcel is in transit, so orders are not sent on ice. Refrigerate on arrival — see storage and stability.

Payment and VAT

How can I pay?

Using VISA, Mastercard, Open Banking or bank transfer.

Are prices inclusive of VAT?

No VAT is charged. We are not VAT registered, so the price shown is the total you pay and no VAT is itemised at checkout or on your invoice. We expect to register as the business grows, and this answer will be updated when we do.

Can I order as an institution or on account?

Email support@owsa-labs.com with your purchase order requirements and we will tell you what we can do.

Products and documentation

What form does the material arrive in?

Lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder in a sealed glass vial. Diluent is not supplied and is ordered separately where we list it. Preparation is covered in reconstituting lyophilised peptides.

Do you provide a certificate of analysis?

Where a third-party report exists for the lot you receive, yes — it is linked from the product page and listed on the certificates of analysis page. Where one does not, the product page and certificates catalogue say so plainly (Not yet published). We currently publish reports for 24 of 67 catalogue lines. Coverage varies by strength and lot; match any report to the lot on your vial.

Why does the batch number matter?

Synthesis is a batch process, so a certificate describes one lot and says nothing about any other. A report you cannot match to the vial in your hand is evidence about somebody else’s material. How to read a certificate of analysis covers this and the other red flags.

What purity should I expect?

The figure for each item is stated on its product page and, where a certificate exists, evidenced by the chromatogram. Note that an HPLC purity percentage is relative to detected material and is not the same as peptide content by mass.

Legal position and use

What does “research use only” actually mean?

It describes what the product is, rather than disclaiming what it might be used for. The material is not manufactured, tested or released to the standards that apply to medicines, and no regulator has assessed it. We set the position out in full in what “research use only” means.

Can you tell me what quantity to use?

No — and this is not a formality we will waive if asked politely. We do not give guidance on human use in any form. Answering would be practising medicine without the qualifications, the authorisation or the patient.

Are these products medicines?

No item here holds a marketing authorisation. Some compounds studied in research settings are also licensed medicines in Great Britain, or close analogues of them; for those, supply to the public without a prescription is an offence under the Human Medicines Regulations 2012, and a research-use label creates no exemption. If you are uncertain about a particular substance, the MHRA is the authority rather than us.

Do I need to be a registered laboratory to order?

Ordering is a statement that you have a research purpose and are equipped to handle the material safely — somewhere appropriate to store and use it, and a disposal route. Handling and laboratory practice covers what that involves.
